I have an undergraduate degree from Brown University and a Master’s degree and a certificate to teach English from Harvard University. I was an English teacher for 35 years. Originally from Boston, I taught for ten years in that area before moving to Indianapolis in 2000 with my husband who is a professor at Indiana University Indianapolis. During my 25 years teaching at North Central High School, I held a variety of positions: I ran the Cohort program. I oversaw the International Baccalaureate program for the English department. I was the Middle Years Coordinator when the district was a K-12 IB district. I was the lead teacher for Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition (grade 11) and Advanced Placement Language and Composition (grade 12). I was and continue to be the director of the Panther Exploration Project (PEP) for all 10th graders. PEP encourages students to explore, create and exhibit a project of personal interest. I also currently work in North Central’s Learning Center tutoring students. These students include our immigrant and refugee population as well as all other levels of students.
Our two daughters attended Nora Elementary School, Northview Middle School, and North Central High School. Claudia graduated in 2014 and Eliza graduated in 2017. Both went to Indiana University in Bloomington. Claudia is currently a Physician Assistant at Methodist Hospital in their liver unit; Eliza is the Communications and Outreach Coordinator for the Commission on Women for the State of Washington.
